Over 100 colleges and universities now recruit out of Urban Debate League populations. 90% of these students have graduated from high school and 75% have gone on to college. Starting with 20 students in 1985 from at-risk Atlanta communities, Urban Debate Leagues have now served over 40,000 students and teachers in 24 cities. As the first nonprofit organization to focus on urban debate, the Glenn Pelham Foundation has been one of the major forces in the National Urban Debate League movement. Since 1987, the Glenn Pelham Foundation has attracted and dispersed more than three million dollars in grant money to support debate-oriented programs for underserved urban, rural and international students. "Through the efforts of these, the purpose of Emory has been furthered, and the forensic art for the current Forum and that yet to come has been enriched." - Thomas Glenn Pelham Led by Barkley Forum Alumni, the Glenn Pelham Foundation for Debate Education is one of the most successful non-profit organizations targeting debate outreach in the nation and is part of the Barkley Forum's inspiring legacy of community service. ![]()
